In a clash for the WBA interim lightweight championship, WBA #8 Miguel Acosta (25-9-2, 19 KOs) scored an explosive ninth round KO upset over previously unbeaten WBC #1 Urbano Antillon (26-0, 19 KOs) on Saturday night in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico. Brisk two-way action early with Antillon applying heavy pressure, but Acosta’s movement frustrated Antillion as the bout progressed. Acosta ended it with an flush right uppercut that dropped Antillon and left him unable to continue. Time was 1:47.

In his first first defense, WBA light flyweight champion Giovani Segura (21-1-1, 17 KOs) punished late sub Juanito Rubillar Jr. (46-13-7, 22 KOs) until Rubillar’s corner threw in the towel to protect their man even though he was still fighting. Time was 2:04. In his sixth and possibly last world title challenge, Rubillar was a late substitute for Filipino countryman Sonny Boy Jaro.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Sam Peter (31-3, 24 KOs) scored a brutal third round KO over Marcus McGee (22-17-1, 11 KOs). Three knockdowns for Peter in his debut fight under the Top Rank promotional banner.
