WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaez of Argentina now (30-0-2, 19 KOs) successfully defended his title for the sixteenth time against challenger Omar Soto of Mexico now (17-5-1, 11 KOs) stopping him in round eleven. The bout took place at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. Narvaez promoted by Osvaldo Rivero, clearly showed why he has been a world champion for seven years and has not lost a fight in nearly nine years as a professional. A very relaxed Narvaez stood in the pocket against Soto for the majority of the fight dodging Soto’s punches with subtle but very effective head and body movement. When Narvaez was on the offensive, he completely dominated and outclassed Soto with a good mix of head and body shots. Soto was deducted a point for headbutting Narvaez in round eight after being warned multiple times by referee Roberto Ramirez Jr. prior to the deduction for similar infractions. There was no doubt Soto came to fight as he was very aggressive, but Narvaez was in complete control of the bout from the beginning. The end came in the eleventh round when a series of power left and right hands to head of Soto had him staggering. A straight left hand to the head put him down. Soto beat the count but arose on unsteady legs and the referee rightfully stopped the bout. Prior to the bout it was announced that the WBO had elevated Narvaez to Super Champion.
