Salambek Baysangurov: «At present I don’t need victories by KO – I need experience»

On the undercard of «Comeback Fight» boxing tournament fans will see quite an interesting fight – Salambek Baysangurov, younger brother of Zaur Baysangurov will step into the ring in Kyiv on May 30th. Salambek attained marvelous distinctions when he boxed as an amateur in cadet age group. He is the only amateur boxer who managed to win national Russian boxing championship six times. He also won gold medal at European championship in 2006 and the same year he won gold medal at World championship. Besides he was named the best boxer at those both boxing events. Earlier in 2005 he won silver medal at European championship.

Dazzling future was waiting for him; however, unexpectedly Salambek was badly injured and did not train for two years. After having recovered he decided to turn pro. He made his début last November when he defeated Sergey Mantulov by a unanimous decision but did not manage to make a brilliant display of his boxing skills.

On the eve of his second pro fight Salambek Baysangurov told our website about his pro debut, his training and his expectations: «My first pro fight turned out to be far from I expected. Before it I did not box for two years due to my injury and I was operated on six months before the bout. I wanted to make my pro debut as soon as possible and trained for one month only being sure that I would be able to re-establish my shape easily. And when I stepped into the ring I was eager to make a brilliant display and I strived for victory by KO. However, I was so keen about it that I got tired rather quickly and did not manage to kayo my opponent.

But this time I had a plenty of time for training and I did my job well. Together with my brother Zaur we trained successfully in the USA, sparred with American boxers, besides I had good sparring sessions in Kyiv too.

I did not see fights of my next rival Andrei Monakhov but I know that he fought Igor Bursak and proved to be a determined and sturdy fighter. This time I won’t be aiming to KO my opponent – I plan to box and increase my advantage from round to round. Well, of course, if I manage to win by KO it would be perfect, if not – let it be. At present I don’t need victories by KO – I need experience. The most important thing for me is to take convincing victory on May 30th and then to make further progress fighting stronger and stronger opponents».
