Shane Mosley Tells Mayweather Jr. To Stop Running

26 May 2009 15:14       hits 22823 Print version

A potential fight that many boxing experts say has been brewing since the 90's, when Floyd Mayweather Jr. was a super featherweight and Shane Mosley was a lightweight. Back then, an up and coming Mayweather tried to get himself a fight with Mosley, who would instead move up by two weight divisions and make his mark in the sport by winning a decision over a prime Oscar De La Hoya in a welterweight classic.

Over the years, the two sides have baited each other through the media and a fight never came close to coming together. Mayweather, making his own mark and gaining a much higher position in the sport than Mosley, now views the veteran fighter as someone who doesn't bring any money to the table or does anything to warrant the two of them having to fight. Mosley has never been a mega-attracion in terms of ticket sales but he is one the top fighters and biggest names in the sport.

Mosley shot back during a recent television interview and said Mayweather returned because he lost all of his money. He told Floyd to stop running away from the fight.

"Floyd, quit running. Stop running. Stop saying that, oh, you know, I'm not a pay-per-view attraction, or this or that. I've been fighting longer than you. I've been making money longer than you. That's probably why you're coming back to the sport right now is because you need money, you lost your money, now you had to come back and get some more money. We can make money togther, alright? So let's do it," Mosley said.
