WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno will make his fourth title defense against former WBA 122lb champion Mahyar Monshipour of France. The fight will be held in Monshipour’s hometown of Poitiers on July 4th. An agreement was reached by both parties soon after Moreno’s successful title defense against ex-champ Wladimir Sidorenko in Germany. “It should a very interesting clash of styles,” declared boxing manager Jacques Deschamps who brokered the deal, “Moreno is a southpaw stylist while Mahyar is a brawler who puts on relentless pressure.” Champion Moreno (25-1-1, 8 KOs) says he looks forward to facing the French-Iranian idol and doesn’t mind fighting in his opponent’s hometown. “I fought Sidorenko twice in his homebase in Germany. I don’t let partisan fans get under my skin,” stated Moreno. For his part, Monshipour (31-3-2, 21 KOs) will attempt, at age 34, to become the first Frenchman to be a two-division champion. “I am elated by the prospect of making history for my adopted homeland. I was happy to meet Moreno personally and the meeting was very friendly. Of course, come July 4th, we will be both looking to win and there can only be one winner,” said Monshipour.
