Gamboa claims WBA interim belt!

The 2004 Olympic Games gold medalist and WBA #3-ranked contender Yuriorkis Gamboa (15-0, 13 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over second-ranked Jose “Cheo’’ Rojas (25-7-1, 17 KOs) to win the vacant interim WBA featherweight title on Friday night at Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino at Primm, Nevada. Gamboa dominated every minute of every round until referee Russell Mora waved it off at 1:31 of the tenth. Gamboa was credited with a knockdown in round five and constantly pressured the 37-year-old Rojas, who again failed to win a world title in his fifth attempt.
