Ukrainian fighter Vyacheslav Senchenko (29-0, 20 KOs) of «Union Boxing Promotion» from Donetsk has become new WBA regular world welterweight champion after defeating Yuriy Nuzhnenko (28-1-1, 13 KOs) of Kyiv-based «K2 East Promotions» promotional company. The first loss in Nuzhnenko’s record appeared to be especially bitter since it cost him champion’s belt. After 12 action packed rounds all three judges gave unanimous nod to Senchenko.
Nuzhnenko mainly jabbed occasionally using his left hook, while Senchenko was counterpunching successfully boxing from the outside. Nuzhnenko tried to get inside and involve his rival into exchanges. It was hard to predict the outcome of that dingdong battle.
Nuzhnenko looked impressive in rounds 10 and 11 forcing his opponent to look for a rest in clinches, however, Senchenko managed to land several good punches at the end of round 12. Both fighters were busy with heated exchanges when the final bell rang.
The scores were 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 which made Vyacheslav Senchenko the new WBA regular world welterweight champ.
