WBA welterweight champ Yuriy Nuzhnenko said that he was sure about Vitali Klitschko’s victory over Juan Carlos Gomez last Saturday. Klitschko won by TKO in round 9.
«I know quite well from my own experience that it is rather difficult to box against a southpaw», – Nuzhnenko explained. «That was the main problem. Vitali needed just a little bit more time – he had to adjust to the southpaw stance of Gomez. However, I had no doubt that Klitschko would win. Klitschko perfectly built and implemented his strategy. He did not let Gomez to get inside. There was no doubt about Ukrainian’s physical condition either. Gomez was doomed to failure from the very start».
Nuzhnenko also gave some comments about Cuban’s performance. «Personally I expected something much better from Gomez. Sure, he is a skilled fighter, fast on his feet and possessing rather good hand speed. But he lacked the most crucial factor of a heavyweight – a good punch. He is a kind of Chris Byrd’s simplified copy. Starting from round 6 the fight looked more and more like Vitali Klitschko hunting after KO win».
