Juan Carlos Gomez (R) of Cuba pushes Vitali Klitschko (L) of Ukraine after the weigh in at the Karstadt Sport shop on March 20, 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany
Despite all of the pre-fight bad blood, the weigh-in was rather calm. Klitschko weighed in at 249 pounds, while Gomez came in at 230 pounds. Klitschko promised a beating to his former stablemate. The two fighters used to fight under the Universum promotional banner, shared the same trainer and sparred often.
"I like Juan a lot. He's a real nice guy and a good buddy of mine," Klitschko said. "It's a real pity that I now have to beat him up."
Gomez, a former cruiserweight champion, vowed to outbox and "destroy" Klitschko.
"I'll toy with 'Dr. Wimp' in such a way and I'll outbox him that there won't be two opinions about the outcome: 'The Black Panther' will be world champion again," Gomez said.
