After they denied any issues with the right hand of Shane Cameron, it was revealed today by [Cameron's manager] Ken Reinsfield and Ian Fraser, spokesman for promoter Duco - that three fractures where found in Cameron's hand and surgery was required. They hope to schedule the surgery for the end of this month.
Cameron suffered the injury during his training camp for a tuneup bout with Robert Davis in Gisborne, which Cameron won with an eleven round stoppage about two weeks ago. Cameron further busted up the hand during the fight. He received several exams on the hand and initially Reinsfield and Duco denied the serious nature of the injury and said the fight would go forward. Now they view the postponement as a way to have a few more months to promote the fight.
As of now, Cameron's heavyweight grudge bout with David Tua is set for June 6 at Westpac Stadium in Hamilton, New Zealand. According to insiders involved with the fight, the promoters will likely reschedule the event to a date in August.
