This time there would be no controversy. IBF 168-pound world champion and hometown favorite Lucian Bute (24-0 19KO) laid a quick and efficient beatdown of Fulgencio Zuniga (22-4-1 19KO) handing the Columbian the quickest defeat of his eight year career with a TKO victory at 2:25 of the fourth round on Friday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. If the Romanian southpaw was looking for a measure of redemption from the controversial ending in his last fight, he got it and more. Bute dropped the three-time title challenger with a left uppercut to the body early in the round, Zuniga managed to beat the count but the IBF champion was relentless in his pursuit, giving New Jersey referee Lindsey Page no choice but to pull the plug as the champion jumped on the opportunity. Time was 2:25.
Jo Jo Dan moved his record to a perfect 24-0 (13KO) in a 40-36 (X3) over Cesar Soriano (19-23 13KO) of Mexico City. It was admittedly a stay-busy fight for the #5 (WBC) ranked super-lightweight who should see the division open up for him once the Timothy Bradley-Kendall Holt unification and Hatton-Pacquiao bouts take place. This one though was pretty much a clench fest for the duration of the four rounds.
Renan St-Juste (20-1-1 13KO) delivered a lethal left hand and scored a TKO victory at 2:27 of the 8th round over Roberto Reuque (30-3 19KO), retaining his WBC Continental Americas middleweight title and adding the vacant NABA crown in the process. Reuque who hails from Argentina despite battling for a North American crown, walked straight into the left that the powerful southpaw delivered from his own corner and although he managed to get up at the count of eight, but had little idea where he was as referee Gerry Bolen called a halt to the proceedings. St-Juste who is ranked top-ten by both the WBC and WBA dominated throughout, landing hard powerful blows and taking down his opponent down to end the fifth round.
