Ruiz named WBA mandatory!

The World Boxing Association Championship Committee has declared two-time WBA heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz (43-8-1, 29 KOs), presently rated No. 3, as the mandatory challenger for the winner of this year’s Ruslan Chagaev-Nicolai Valuev WBA title fight.

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-0, 22 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over 38-year-old former champ John Ruiz (44-9-1, 30 KOs) on Saturday night at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England. Haye dropped Ruiz twice in round one, the first time with the right hand almost immediately, the second time with a rabbit punch. WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and challenger John Ruiz took to the scales this afternoon ahead of their title showdown in Manchester, England tomorrow night. Champion Haye looked in magnificent shape and tipped the beam at 222lbs (15 stone 12lbs) while Ruiz, who refused to take his t-shirt off, weighed 231 lbs (16 stone 7 lbs). WBA heavyweight champion David Haye see two flaws in WBO/IBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko, and neither of those flaws are his chin. Haye doesn't view Klitschko as a big finisher. He says the Eastern Euro champ sticks to using his jab because he doesn't have the "killer instinct" to finish an opponent off. WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is ready and willing to give WBA champion David Haye the homefield advantage. If Haye defeats mandatory John Ruiz on April 3, and Klitschko beats Albert Sosnowski on May 29, there could be some fireworks in England at the end of the year. In the next week or so, trainer Emanuel Steward will start camp with WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko for the March 20 title defense against Eddie Chambers.
