In the main event of «Heavyweight Attack» boxing tournament held on February 26th in Kyiv Sport Palace by «K2 East Promotions» promotional company heavyweight Alexander Ustinov (14-0, 12 ÊÎs) fought Maksym Pedyura (11-1, 10 KOs), an aggressive Ukrainian puncher from Krivoy Rog. At first Ustinov, a giant of a man, appeared to be unexpectedly fast taking into consideration his size (height 202 cm, weight 140 kg). Usually very aggressive Pedyura this time was forced to defend. However, in rounds 3 and 4 quick and skilful Pedyura managed to land several good shots at his opponent who due to some reason slowed down a little in those rounds. Nevertheless one of his punches made Pedyura’s nose bleed.
In the next round Ustinov stepped on the gas and threw more punches some of which made Pedyura’s nose bleed even worse. Referee stopped the bout and invited ring doctor. After examination and failed attempts to stop bleeding the doctor advised stopping the fight. Thus Ustinov came victorious with TKO win in round 5.
This win brought Ustinov vacant EBA (European Boxing Association) heavyweight title and it is expected that soon he will join top 15 fighters in WBA rankings.
In the co-event Maxim Bursak (17-0-1, 6 KOs), undefeated IBF Youth middleweight champion, faced Georgian Levan Shonia (13-4, 9 ÊÎs) in a non-title ten-rounder. Bursak started aggressively throwing a lot of punches methodically pressing on his opponent. Shonia was mainly defensive occasionally trying to counterpunch. Both fighters were at their best in two final rounds – many considered their round 10 as the best round of the evening. Eventually Bursak got unanimous nod from all three judges.
All over sudden previously unbeaten welterweight prospect Valery Brazhnik (20-0-1, 13 KOs) faced strong opposition in his ten-rounder with Alexander Benidze (10-9-2, 5 KOs). The fight appeared to be the sternest test for Brazhnik: Benidze was fast and aggressive throwing a lot of combinations gradually and constantly wearing down Brazhnik in the second half of the fight. Brazhnik managed to regroup and looked good in the final round. Judges considered the fight a draw, however, their decision was booed by many fans in Kyiv Sport Palace.
