Max Bursak faces Levan Shonia

18 Feb 2009 03:24       hits 6728 Print version

On February 26th Maxim «The Tormentor» Bursak (16-0-1, 6 KOs), undefeated IBF Youth middleweight champion, will clash with 24-years-old Georgian Levan Shonia (13-3, 9 ÊÎs). This time there will be no belt at stake.

Bursak vs. Shonia bout will be a co-event at a big boxing tournament – on February 26th in Kyiv Sport Palace «K2 East Promotions» promotional company will hold a big boxing tournament which got the name «Heavyweight Attack». In the main event Alexander Ustinov (13-0, 11 ÊÎs) will fight for vacant European title – EBA (European Boxing Association) champion belt. Alexander will face Maksym Pedyura (11-0, 10 KOs), an aggressive Ukrainian puncher from Krivoy Rog.

As far as 24-years-old Bursak is concerned he is one of the most spectacular and promising Ukrainian boxers. His opponent Levan Shonia is a skilful boxer, fast on his legs with steel chin – neither was he ever kayoed nor even sent to knockdown.

Earlier in their career both Bursak and Shonia fought Mikhail Khucishvili and both succeeded in early stoppage: Maxim stopped Khucishvili in round 7 (which brought Bursak IBF Youth middleweight champion belt) while Shonia kayoed Mikhail in round 4.

It looks like Shonia will be the sternest test for Bursak at the current stage of Max’s boxing career and the result of the upcoming fight may seriously influence Bursak’s future.
