Undefeated world super-middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe announced his retirement moments ago on BBC Sport. “It was a difficult decision but I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve in boxing,” he said. “I’ve been world champion for 11 years. I’ve got no other goals to go for…..you can never say never in this game, but I can’t see myself boxing again. There’s loads of things I want to do. I’m proud to be one of only a few fighters in history to retire undefeated.”
Enzo Calzaghe has backed his son Joe’s decision to retire from professional boxing. Earlier this evening Enzo said he was “over the moon” at the announcement. Speaking to Setanta Sports News Enzo Calzaghe said, “I said to Joe ‘the minute you want to retire I’ll be behind you because enough is enough’. Technically, and on the physical side of things, he could carry on for another five years. But more importantly it’s the mental side of things, the hunger for it. Lets be honest - he’s done all he can do. There’s nothing left to prove. He knows how to win.”

Alexander Ustinov will fight on February 26th
