Povetkin-Estrada is on?

28 Jan 2009 18:15       hits 5910 Print version

IBF heavyweight mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (16-0, 12 KOs) will most probably put his lofty world rank at stake on April 4th against American prospect Jason ‘Big Six’ Estrada (15-1, 3 KOs) in a scheduled ten-rounder. Both fighters took part in 2004 Athens Olympics. Estrada, three-time USA super heavyweight champion, was outpointed in quarterfinals by Cuban Michel Lopez Nunez, while Povetkin, now ranked IBF #1 and WBO #4, went ahead to become the first ever Russian super heavyweight Olympic gold medalist. “Alexander hasn’t boxed for a long time and then there was an unsettling injury,” commented Povetkin’s co-manager Vladimir Hrunov. “The fight with Estrada is 90 percent on. It will take place in Germany but we are still looking for a venue. Make no mistake. Estrada is a dangerous opponent who will be up for a stern test for Sasha, not a tune-up fight. It’ll be a heated duel between two former Olympians and a nice match-up to watch.”
