Venezuelan Jorge "Niño de Oro" Linares won the vacant WBA super featherweight world
championship by knocking out Panamanian Whyber Garcia at 1:08 of round number five on Friday
night at the Atlapa Convention Center in Panama City. Jorge imposed his will and pressure on his
opponent landing several punches causing the referee to stop the bout. Linares, who trains and
resides in Japan was the heavy favorite to win his second world title in different weight categories after
almost a year without a fight after abandon the WBC featherweight title. With the win, Venezuela again
has a world champion.
