How will WBO heavyweight Sultan Ibragimov overcome the size and power of IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko? How will Wladimir Klitschko overcome the tenacity and power of Sultan Ibragimov. Both camps are supremely confident that their man will come out victorious in tonight's unification superfight at Madison Square Garden. Here's what they told Fightnews.com, exclusively.
Ibragimov's Trainer Jeff Mayweather: The biggest advantage that we have is hand speed and Sultan is a very good puncher, as well. The other advantage that we have is that Sultan can make adjustments as the fight goes on. He's proven that he can box, he's proven that he can bang and that's the thing when you have to make adjustments. He's proven that he can do both so I think he has a great chance.
Ibragimov's Promoter Leon Margules: My belief is that [Sultan] has got too much gas for this guy. He's faster, more durable, he's busier and he's not afraid of him at all. He thinks Klitschko's a normal fighter. He's confident. I just think he's got too much. I think it a good fight as long as it lasts but I think he's got too much....when Ibragimov wins, it will be my pleasure to continue these mega events.
Ibragimov's Manager Boris Grinberg: Sultan believes there's only one champion. He respects all fighters. Americans and everyone wants to see only one champion. For the near future we don't think about, we think only about knocking out Klitschko.
Klitschko's Trainer Emanuel Steward: I think the key to this fight is going to be speed. They're using speed and we're doing the same thing. But the footspeed is the key. Everyone who fights Wladimir is shocked at how at how they can't get away and they can't get in. Everytime they try to go forward he has a way of creating a distance and then when they try to avoid him, he's right there cutting off the ring. Ibragimov going to experience, like a big cat and a little mouse, everywhere he goes Wladimir is already in that corner, then panic sets in. And frustration. 'I can't get into him, because of those arms and I'm trying to get away to pull him in, and I can't get away.' Maybe four rounds it will be competitive and then the knockout will come. Wladimir is one of the few fighters in heavyweight history other than Tyson, with one punch knockouts. His fights end usually with just one punch. You blink your eyes and it's over with and that's what made Tyson so exciting. It's different sytles, one was agressive, one guy is technical and analytical, but still if you turn your head for one second, they could turn your lights out. That's what heavyweights should do. That's what makes heavyweights special, but that quality's gone now and nobody's knocking out people but Wladimir now. That's what I like and we spend a lot of time on knockouts.....I think that Wladimir is just physically a good big man that's going to beat a good little man. That's what's it's going to come down to.
