“If he overlooked me, then he paid dearly for it,” Carlos “Indio” Quintana stated during an impromptu press conference after his massive upset of Paul “Punisher” Williams for the WBO welterweight title at the Pechanga Resort and Casino Saturday night. “We knew that Paul Williams was going to be in shape for this fight, that he was going to throw a lot of punches so we prepared for that.”

“I feel very proud in winning the title. I would like to thank the WBO, Paul Williams for the opportunity, Goossen Tutor and to my promoter Lou DiBella for making this fight happen,” the surprisingly subdued Quintana added before Lou DiBella shared his thoughts on the bout “As a promoter, sometimes you are surprised by what your fighter can do and I was tonight. I am very proud to be his promoter.”

Dan Goossen, President of Goosen-Tutor and the former WBO champion Paul Williams’ promoter also shared his feelings regarding his fighter’s loss “I feel like Bill Belichick. Like New England, Williams’ will was never broken but Quintana had a great strategy. New England will be back next year and Paul Williams will be back.”

At that point, the classy Paul Williams joined the forum “I couldn’t get in my rhythm. I’m not going to cry. If you can accept winning, you can accept losing.” Although Lou DiBella suggested that Williams should move up in weight, Williams was very clear in his plans for the future “I hope those champions in the division don’t think they are off the hook. I will be back at 147 lbs.”

“Fighting a southpaw is like looking in a mirror. It wasn’t an issue, he was just getting off quicker,” Williams acknowledged. “I didn’t feel loose; I didn’t feel the quickness from the first round on. I was never hurt, he caught me with some good shots but I was never hurt”

In closing, Lou DiBella declared “If Paul Williams wants a rematch, then Paul Williams gets a rematch. He gave us this opportunity and we will give him his rematch.”

Williams likes the underdog!

You can hardly imagine “The Punisher” ever being the underdog and the 26-year old Williams is not a gambling man inside or outside of the ring either. Instead, he relies on his two fisted attack as well as his southpaw stance, 6’3” frame, 82 inch reach and relentless pressure to assemble his impressive 33-0, 24KO ledger in addition to the WBO welterweight strap that he won over Antonio Margarito in July ’07 read more ...
