Trinidad in Top Form, Ready For Roy Jones

20 Dec 2007 14:30       hits 5237 Print version

Felix "Tito" Trinidad claims to be in the best physical shape of his career. Trinidad tipped the scales on Tuesday, weighing 173-pounds, only 3-pounds above the agreed upon catch-weight for his return to the ring against Roy Jones Jr. on January 19. The fight will be televised by HBO pay-per-view from New York's Madison Square Garden. The bout will be Trinidad's first since a decision loss to Winky Wright on May 14, 2005.

In a recent interview with First Hour, trainer Felix Trinidad Sr. said his son will make the 170-pound limit without any problems, even if the fight was pushed up to this weekend. Trinidad Sr. is predicting a war in The Garden.

"Tito is doing very well (in training camp). I'll tell you like this, if for some reason they had to move the fight to an earlier date, Tito would make weight without any difficulty," Trinidad Sr. said. "Tito is in his best shape in years, going back to 1999, 2000. Many people are going to be in for a surprise with Trinidad's shape after a long layoff. They saw it against Ricardo Mayorga when Tito returned to boxing in great condition, but this he's in excellent shape."

Trindad Sr. said they have studied the style of Jones for years.

"We do not need to study the style of Roy Jones now, because we been observing him for a very long time. Even before Tito fought with David Reid, we already spoke about fighting Roy Jones and since then we were studying him," Trinidad Sr. said.
