In a toe-to-toe war, "Son of the Legend" Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (34-0-1, 27 KOs) scored a very exciting sixth round knockout over game local favorite Ray Sanchez (20-1, 15 KOs) on Saturday night in a super welterweight clash before a large, engerized crowd of 6,077 at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Both fighters began trading at the opening bell and never stopped, however Chavez had more firepower and eventually wore down Sanchez, dropping him for the count in round six. Time was 1:33.
Super flyweight star Jorge Arce (49-4-1, 37 KOs) scored a one-punch first round annihilation of Manny Pacquiao-conqueror Medgoen Singsurat (48-6, 34 KOs). It was a left hook to the body that ended matters after just 48 seconds.
Unbeaten WBO light flyweight champion Ivan 'Iron Boy' Calderon (30-0, 6 KOs) outpointed aggressive Juan Esquer (20-2-1, 15 KOs) over twelve rounds. The wild-swinging Esquer relentlessly pursued the slick Calderon all twelve rounds, but it was the Iron Boy prevailing by scores of 116-112, 118-110, 115-113.
