WBA interim cruiserweight champion Firat Arslan (27-3-1, 18 KOs) can now drop the "interim" moniker after a twelve round unanimous decision over WBA cruiser titlist Virgil Hill (50-6, 23 KOs) on Saturday night at the Freiberger Arena in Dresden, Germany. Arslan pressed the action early as expected while the back-pedaling Hill was able to land some good combinations. Hill decided to stand his ground in round three and gave as he got as the fighters traded punches at close range the entire round. More good two-way action in the fourth and fifth as the 43-year-old Hill surprised everyone with his tremendous conditioning. In round six, Hill delivered almost non-stop very light punches, while Arslan landed all the meaningful shots. Hill was on his toes in the seventh, trying to keep the advancing Arslan at the end of his jab. Arslan probably won the round, however, when he pressed Hill against the ropes and landed a good straight left. Hill kept his hands busier in the eighth and again Arslan landed the harder punches. Arslan had his best round so far in the ninth, landing some hard shots, while Hill's non-stop pitty-pats were having little effect. The pattern continued the rest of the fight as Hill continued to move his hands like a machine, but Arslan landed far fewer, but better punches. In the end, judges preferred Arlan's power shots to Hill's speed punching, awarding Arslan with a 118-110, 116-113, 117-111 win.

WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt "The Firebird" Erdei (28-0, 17 KOs) mostly outboxed Tito "El Misil" Mendoza (36-8, 28 KOs) en route to a twelve round split decision. Erdei was the quicker and technically better boxer as he chopped away at the 6'3 challenger. Mendoza's best moment came in round three when he rocked Erdei with a right hand, however Erdei was generally able to avoid Mendoza's powershots while beating Mendoza to the punch all night long. Scores: 116-112, 117-111 for Erdei, and a bizarre 117-111 for Mendoza.

Hill talks about the future!

After his twelve round points defeat against Firat Arslan in Dresden, Germany, 43-year-old future Hall of Famer Virgil Hill doesn't sound like he's ready to hang up the gloves just yet. "We're going to look at that," Hill said. "I need to take some time off, I trained pretty hard for this fight.....there are some opportunities with Daruisz Michalczewski and Graciano Rocchigianni coming out of retirement read more ...
