"I am the champion and I needed to defend my belt," said Sam Peter after defending his WBC interim heavyweight title against Jameel McCline despite being knocked down three times. "When I went down I knew I had to stand up." Peter said he did not overlook McCline, but entered the fight with a broken left hand. "Both of my hands were hurting me tonight," he stated. "I am going back home to bring the WBC heavyweight championship back to Africa."
Jameel McCline was angry after letting his big opportunity slip away, "I wasn't happy with my performance," he commented. "I could've finished him, I should've finished and I didn't. I thought I had him. He got away and that is why he is still champion. I will tell you this. Samuel Peter is a great champion."
