Vivian Harris has admitted his career as a top fighter hinges on him beating Junior Witter in Doncaster on Friday.
The former WBA champion, who is out to relieve the Bradford fighter of his WBC light welterweight title, said: "This fight is do or die for me.
"Witter will have to kill me in that ring to beat me. He has an awkward style - he fights a bit like a coward - but I've faced more awkward people.
"I've got a lot of weapons and I'm going to win that belt."
His contest with Witter will be Guyana-born, New York-based Harris's fifth world title fight at the age of 29.
"I am here to get to get the job done and I'm not making any predictions," he said.
"I just know that come the end of the fight I will be WBC champion.
"I don't know what's going to happen when the fight starts, but I'm going to do what I've got to do."
Harris last fought for a world title when he lost his WBA crown to Carlos Maussa in Atlantic City in June 2005.
