WBO junior featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (32-1, 29 KOs) impressively annihilated previously unbeaten challenger Rey Bautista (23-1, 17 KOs) in the first round of the main event Saturday night at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento. A hard left hand sent Bautista down and Ponce De Leon pounced on Bautista to brutally finish him off at 2:30.
In a stunner, Gerry Penalosa (52-6-2, 35 KOs) dethroned WBO bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (34-6, 29 KOs) by spectacular seventh round knockout. Behind on the scorecards, Penalosa suddenly dropped Gonzalez for the count with a single left hook to the body at 2:45. The 35-year-old Penalosa, who won the WBC super flyweight title more than ten years ago, is a world champion again as the Filipino sweep continues at the Arco Arena in Sacramento.
