WBA and WBC super-middleweigt boxing world champion Mikkel Kessler (R) of Denmark hits his title contender Librado Andrade of Mexico
It was one-sided but still spectacular and exciting as the bout was fought at a very high pace. Andrade kept moving forward and threw a very high volume of punches. Both fighters fought to control the center of the ring in the first round, wich resulted in a fairly even round. The Mexican challenger bloodied Kessler's nose in the third, but still the champion moved well in the ring and outscored Andrade with harder and more precise punches. Kessler even scored with three and four punch combinations throughout parts of the fight.
Andrade looked visibly shaken in the fourth, but stayed upright showing tremendous heart and kept on punching. Both fighters looked tired in the second half of the fight, but still managed to keep a very high pace. Andrade had a good ninth round, when Kessler took a little rest. In the eleventh and the last round both fighters traded punches toe-to-toe with Kessler getting the better of the exchanges. Both fighters received standing ovation from the audience of 18.000 spectators after the 12th and final round.
The 28-year old Mikkel Kessler is now 39-0 with 29 KO’s and looks more promising than ever. Librado Andrade suffered his first defeat and is now 24-1 (18 KOs), but still had much grace in defeat in this fight.
