Jean Marc Mormeck (32-3, 22 KOs) regained his WBC/WBA cruiserweight titles with a hard-fought unanimous decision over defending champion O'Neil Bell (26-1-1, 24 KOs) on Saturday night at the Palais des Sports Marcel Cerdan in Paris, France. Both fighters went right at each other from the opening bell with Mormeck landing most of the bigger shots. Mormeck went down from a low blow in the third but came back to batter Bell on the ropes. The tide started to turn toward Bell in round four and Mormeck looked almost out at the end of round six. The battle raged on, and entering the championship rounds, the WBC open scoring announcement let Bell know he needed at least a knockdown if not a KO to win. A fatigued Mormeck made it to the final bell, and won by scores of 115-113, 116-112, 115-113. Mormeck's win avenges a KO loss to Bell in January 2006 at Madison Square Garden.
