12 Dec 2006 11:59       hits 14920 Print version

The WBC has notified the camps of world junior lightweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera and WBC mandatory contender Manny Pacquiao to begin negotiations for a worltd title bout. If no agreement is reached, the WBC will conduct a purse bid on January 12, 2007 in Mexico City. Pacquiao defeated Barrera once before, but Barrera went on to claim two of the four major titles at 130-pounds. In the past, Barrera has opted to give up title belts rather than face mandatory opponents, so Barrera-Pacquiao II should not be considered a certainty just yet.
