In a total war, Miguel Cotto (28-0, 23 KOs) won the WBA welterweight title with a spectacular five round demolition of previously unbeaten Carlos Quintana (23-1, 18 KOs). Miguel Cotto: “I know what I am doing. I know what I am capable of doing and come December 2nd, Puerto Rico will have a new champion – Miguel Cotto! At this weight, I feel that I have more strength and I am going to be more inclined to take the fight to the opponent. I started camp for this fight at 177 (lbs). I used to start (for jr welterweight bouts) at 167. I've never seen Quintana fight. My uncle saw his fight and says he's a strong fighter. Margarito was sparring at the South El Monte Gym when he made a shuffle to his left side and immediately limped away waving his hands for his sparring partner to stop the action. For about a minute he attempted to walk off the injury to his right leg but it wasn’t responding. The injury appeared to be just above his right ankle. It wasn’t swollen but could be a serious sprain based on my observation
