Final press conference quotes from the Copacabana in New York City for Saturday's big SHOWTIME telecast from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City:

Miguel Cotto: “I know what I am doing. I know what I am capable of doing and come December 2nd, Puerto Rico will have a new champion – Miguel Cotto! At this weight, I feel that I have more strength and I am going to be more inclined to take the fight to the opponent. I started camp for this fight at 177 (lbs). I used to start (for jr welterweight bouts) at 167. I've never seen Quintana fight. My uncle saw his fight and says he's a strong fighter. I know I will need to box and I have that ability, I am not just a power hitter."

Carlos Quintana: "I'm not the type of fighter to talk, but I'm telling you I am here and ready to fight! I know a lot of people don't really know me, but after December 2 everyone will know Carlos Quintana."

Antonio Margarito: "I am glad Clottey thinks the way he does. He is expecting a war; I will give him a war so he should be ready. I am prepared to go 12 rounds if I have to. This is a very interesting card, two titles both in my division. This is important to me because I would like to fight the winner of the other bout to unify my title."

Joshua Clottey: "I am not going into this fight to lose, I am going to do everything to win. I want Margarito to stand and fight so we can show everyone who is the best."

Margarito wins; Cotto destroys!

In a total war, Miguel Cotto (28-0, 23 KOs) won the WBA welterweight title with a spectacular five round demolition of previously unbeaten Carlos Quintana (23-1, 18 KOs). Quintana came to fight and gave as good as he got early, but Cotto's power turned the tide. Cotto dropped Quintana with a huge left hook to the liver in round five and Quintana barely beat the count. Cotto dropped him again with a barrage and Quintana almost didn't make read more ...

Antonio Margarito Injured While Sparring

Margarito was sparring at the South El Monte Gym when he made a shuffle to his left side and immediately limped away waving his hands for his sparring partner to stop the action. For about a minute he attempted to walk off the injury to his right leg but it wasn’t responding. The injury appeared to be just above his right ankle. It wasn’t swollen but could be a serious sprain based on my observation read more ...
