This fight was won by Universum Box-Promotion at the purse bid in Miami in September and was supposed to be the highlight of the boxing event in Stuttgart on 28th of October. After being in negotiation with the Ruiz camp, there was no agreement between the two parties concerning the fight on October 28th in Stuttgart. The Ruiz management referred to observance on the 45 days between the win of a purse bid and the holding of the event. Only 3 days were missing to stage the fight in Stuttgart.

Universum Promotor Klaus-Peter Kohl: “We already had talked about this problem at the purse bid but nothing seemed to interfere with hosting this fight. We have talked about all possibilities for a positive outcome but no chance. The Ruiz team persisted on the 45 days period and Ruslan Chagaev will now fight for the WBA Eliminator in November. That’s very sad for him and the audience in Stuttgart but with Sascha Dimitrenko we have a great headliner for this event, in his fight against the Argentinean Basile.”

WBO Interconti Champion Alexander Dimitrenko (22-0-0, 13 KO) defends his title for the 3rd time: “I really like it here. My girlfriend is from Stuttgart so I have a reason to come here.” The 6’7 giant out of the Universum boxing stable will face the Argentinean Gonzalo Omar Basile, also 6’6 tall, who has got a noticing fight record: 26 fights, 25 wins with 12 KO! But Dimitrenko seems to be unimpressed by his contender: “He is tall and a typical South American boxer.”

His coach Fritz Sdunek: “Alexander has undertaken a good development but he still needs time. At the end of next year he should be close for a title shot. Than he can be the new Klitschko.”
