"Trinidad can say whatever he wants," stated the Golden Boy. "He's Trinidad in Puerto Rico. Obviously I want to fight in May, which I'm going to do, whether it's Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Trinidad. If none of them want to fight, then I don't fight. Easy as that. I retire. There's no more fight in May. With Trinidad, it's funny because if he comes out of retirement again, it'll be probably his third or fourth time coming from retirement. I'm not looking for Trinidad. I don't need Trinidad, let's put it that way. But if he wants to erase those demons that are haunting him from our first fight, then obviously he would have to fight me. A lot of people actually thought that I won that fight. Whether I didn't fight the last three rounds or I did, I still won the fight, so I don't need Trinidad and probably Trinidad doesn't need me. I don't know, but if he wants to make that fight we can talk.
In regard Trinidad's statement that De La Hoya has never asked him for another fight, Oscar commented, "We've talked and we've kidded around when we've seen each other, but we've never sat down and really discussed it. It's something I would love to do actually, sit down with him and pick his brain on what he wants to do instead of talking to somebody else. It would be interesting."
As for the weight issue, boxing's only six-division world champion stated "Well if he wants to fight at 160, sure, I'll come in at 152, 153. I'll have the speed. I know I have the power. I know I'm stronger than he is because of me knocking down Mayorga who has a great chin, and he couldn't do it. I have the smarts and the boxing ability to do whatever I can. If he wants to go in at 160 and be slow and sluggish, hey, better for me right?"
