Prince Naseem Hamed is expected to be released from jail next week after serving less than a third of his 15-month sentence for dangerous driving. According to reports on the BBC, the former featherweight champ will be electronically tagged as part of a Home Office home detention curfew. He was jailed on 12 May, serving time at Moorlands Prison in Doncaster, south Yorkshire. The news has angered the family of Anthony Burgin, who was left for dead after a head-on crash involving Hamed's high-powered Mercedes in May 2005. Mr Burgin's wife was also badly hurt. Reacting to the news, Mr Burgin said in a statement: "What happened to my wife and I was deeply distressing and nearly destroyed our lives. I am shocked that after such a serious accident Mr Hamed has been released after less than four months." Hamed fought 17 world title fights in less than six years, eventually losing his unbeaten record to Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas in April 2001. Hamed, 32, looked set to return to the ring this year after a series of comeback rumours and may now seek to resume his boxing career.
