Brewster, Liakhovich speak!

23 Mar 2006 10:00       hits 5035 Print version

The heavyweight division desperately needs an infusion of excitement after the lackluster lethargy exhibited in recent fights. The division needs a star to fill the large void left by Lennox Lewis and to a lesser extent by Vitali Klitschko. WBO heavyweight champion "Relentless" Lamon Brewster and challenger Sergei "the White Wolf" Laikhovich say they are up to the formidable task when they clash April 1st in Cleveland, Ohio, at 11:00 p.m. E.S.T. Both combatants claimed they have had the best camps of their respective careers and promised they would give 100% for the SHOWTIME-broadcast championship contest.

"Brewster is a real, real good champion," said Laikhovich who enters the ring with a 22-1 ledger. "He fights with power and heart. … I am ready for the best Lamon Brewster. I don't want to do any predictions but I will be ready for 12 hard rounds."

For his part, the 33-2 Brewster, who will be making the fourth defense of his belt, insists he is not looking past Laikhovich to fight another world champion. "I think Sergei is a good fighter and I won't take anything away from him," Brewster said. "I don't look past any fighter. It is what you do that night. I'm going into this fight expecting him to do nothing less than put his best foot forward." However, Brewster insists that his time with new trainer Buddy McGirt has been nothing short of a Godsend. "I've been reborn because I've been reminded about how good I can be. I'm improved so much that I scare myself."
