Brazilian boxing star Acelino "Popó" Freitas (37-1, 32 KOs) told the Brazilian Boxing Confederation that he will fight Zahir Raheem (27-1, 16 KOs) on April 29 in the United States. According to HBO, the bout is slated to be televised on a "Boxing After Dark" show taking place at the Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, CT. Freitas fought only one round last year, stopping overmatched Fabian Salazar in July in the first round in his hometown of Salvador, Brazil, while Raheem scored his biggest win in September, beating Erik Morales with a clear-cut 12-round decision. The bout will be for the vacant WBO lightweight tile, which was vacated due to Diego Corrales' desire to go ahead instead with a rubber match against Jose Luis Castillo
