Vidoz tops Hoffmann! Povetkin wins pro debut!

In a stunning upset, late sub Paolo Vidoz of Italy outscored German hero Timo Hoffmann moments ago in Kempten, Germany, and secured the vacant European heavyweight crown by split decision. Scores were 115-113 Hoffmann and 115-112; 114-113 Vidoz. Vidoz dropped Hoffmann in round six. In other action, WBC #3 heavyweight Sinan Samil Sam was knocked down in the final round but survived to defeat Peter Okhello 117-111, 116-111, 115-112.

Russian star Alexander Povetkin, the golden medalist in the superheavy division at the 2004 Olympics, had a successful pro debut moments ago in Kempten, Germany. Povetkin, who signed a promotional contract with German firm Sauerland Event, stopped one Muhammed Ali (2-3; 2KOs) in two rounds.

Hoffmann-Sprott for Euro belt!

German heavyweight contender Timo Hoffmann (32-3-1; 18KOs) will fight for the vacant European title in his next outing, after the European Boxing Union stripped former champ Luan Krasniqi. Krasniqi had been ordered to fight a rematch versus Hoffmann (the pair battled to a twelve-round draw five months ago) but asked for a delay. When the delay was not granted Krasniqi ignored the deadline - and the European governing body eventually vacated the title. Now Hoffmann will be matched versus former British ruler Michael Sprott (27-7; 14KOs) and Sauerland Event's CEO Chris Meyer told FightNews that he is currently negotiating in order to stage the fight on June 11 in Kempten, Germany. read more ...
