Pascal’s Promoter Waiting on Hopkins-Dawson Outcome

16 Jan 2012 15:17       hits 2334 Print version

Regarding the immediate furture of former champion Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16KOs), promoter Yvon Michel is staying patient and waiting for a decision to be made in the current light heavyweight landscape. Michel is waiting for the outcome of the pending rematch between WBC champion Bernard Hopkins and mandatory challenger Chad Dawson. The WBC ordered Hopkins to defend the title against Dawson in a rematch.

Dawson's promoter, Gary Shaw, recently told BoxingScene.com that he doesn't expect Hopkins to take the rematch. If Hopkins vacates, or the WBC strips him of the title, that could possibly open the door for a Dawson vs. Pascal rematch for the vacant belt. Pascal has a 2010 technical decision over Dawson.

"For the moment, Dawson's promoter, Gary Shaw, told me that Golden Boy Promotions, the promoter of Hopkins, have not reached out about the fight. If there is nothing new soon, the WBC itself will order a purse bid," Michel told the Montreal Journal.
