Highly-decorated lightweight Jose Pedraza stopped tough Herbert Quartey in the fifth round of a scheduled eight round bout. The taller Pedraza (6-0, 5 KOs) was able to work behind a stiff jab an was able to land lead right hands to the head. Quartey (7-7, 4 KOs) had some success landing counter right crosses to the head as he was able to get inside. In the fifth round, Pedraza stunned Quartey with a left hook to the head, and dropped him with a right uppercut to the head. Quartey was able to stand up, but was disoriented, prompting referee Tom Taylor to stop the fight at 1:20.
Junior lightweight Alejandro Luna won a one-sided six round unanimous decision over Marcos Herrera. Luna (7-0, 5 KOs) pressed the fight, throwing and landing to the head and body of Herrera. However, Luna would drop his hands, allowing Herrera (6-8-1, 2 KOs) to counter with his own punches to the head. Luna would at times smother himself, which did not allow him to sit down on his punches. Herrera had a point deducted in the fifth round by referee Jack Reiss for having his mouthpiece coming our of his mouth. All three judges, including Fightnews.com, scored the bout 60-54 in favor of Luna.
Junior welterweight Ivan Redkach stopped Dillet Fredericks in the fourth round of a scheduled six round bout. The southpaw Redkach (9-0, 8 KO’s) repeatedly scored with right hooks and left crosses to the head, while Fredericks attempted to get on the inside to counter. Redkach stunned Fredericks (8-5-3, 5 KOs) with a right hand to the head at the end of the third round. In the fourth round, Redkach stunned Fredericks with a barrage of punches, backing him up against the ropes. Although Fredericks fought back, Redkach continued to punch until referee Tom Taylor stopped the fight somewhat prematurely at 1:58. Fredericks protested the stoppage.
Heavyweight Mike Perez, best known for winning the “Prizefighter International Heavyweights” competition in London, won a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision over veteran Friday Ahunanya. The Cuban-born southpaw, who now resides in Cork, Ireland, was the more-polished fighter of the two. Perez (18-0, 12 KOs) would consistently beat Ahunanya (24-8-3, 13 KOs) to the punch during most the bout. Ahunanya’s best round was in the fourth as he was able to land a series of right uppercuts to the head of Perez. However, he would only fight in spurts the rest of the fight, allowing Perez to win every round. All three judges scored the bout 100-90 in favor of Perez, while Fightnews.com scored the bout 99-91 for Perez.
