JM: You are scheduled to fight Siarhei Liakhovich on January 21st. What are you looking to prove in this fight?
Eddie Chambers: “Well I guess you can call this the second half of my career. I have a lot of years under my belt already, but I want to start heading back in the right direction. I want to show everyone that I am not only still around, but that I am a world class fighter. I want to show everyone that I am worthy of another title shot, and that I will be a future world champion. Unfortunately, Liakhovich will be the victim, and an example of how I am still relevant.”
JM: How has the Klitschko loss affected you mentally?
Eddie Chambers: “It mentally beat me down for a while. I am at a point now where I know I just have to let it go. It happened, and I know that there is no way that I can get that fight back right now. For a few months following the fight, I was very depressed. I have to let it go, and go on with this second half of my career.”
JM: How do you feel about the American heavyweight scene?
Eddie Chambers: “All of these guys seem to be just trying to make a dollar, waiting for their time to come due to the Klitschko brothers’ dominance. American’s are very arrogant, and if one of them isn’t the best in the world, they don’t care about the sport it seems like. I think all of these American heavyweights have the possibility to make intriguing, and exciting fights. The networks don’t seem interested in the American heavyweight fights due to the fact that an American isn’t the best Heavyweight at this moment in time. Eventually and hopefully we can get American heavyweights back on TV.”
JM: Are there any of those American Heavyweights that you would like to get in the ring with?
Eddie Chambers: “I would love to get in the ring with Seth Mitchell, Chris Arreola, Monte Barrett, and David Tua. Seth Mitchell is the top of the American heavyweights right now. If I fought him I am sure that could be a big fight that people would want to see, and we can easily put it together.”
JM: When do you see yourself competing on an elite level again?
Eddie Chambers: “After a year layoff, my first opponent is a real tough, good start for me. At the same time, I’m preparing physically, and mentally for everything that comes my way. This is a start, and hopefully soon after I win this fight I can move on and get into another fight shortly after. I am looking to have at least three fights this year. Hopefully by then, I can make a real serious fight, maybe even earlier than that.”
JM: What can fans expect from you on January 21st?
Eddie Chambers: “I am hoping for a dominant victory, hopefully a stoppage. A dominant victory for me would be great. I am training extremely hard, and I am 100% ready. If I get in there without anything on my mind, and no issues regarding camp I am sure I will be able to go in there and handle my business.”
JM: Any closing thoughts for the fans?
Eddie Chambers: “I want to thank my fans that are still out there. Thank you for supporting me, and I want to apologize for not fighting enough this past year. I look to bring them quality fights, and hopefully win a championship soon.”
