Gonzalez destroys Caballero

WBC featherweight world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (51-7, 45 KOs) scored an explosive second round knockout over Roinet Caballero (31-11-1, 22 KOs) on Saturday night at the Centro Banamex in Mexico City. A classic Mexican liver shot sent Caballero to the canvas for the count as Gonzalez defended his belt for the third time.

Lightweight Alejandro Sanabria (30-1-1, 22 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Vinvin Rufino (30-15-3, 14 KOs) in a clash for the vacant WBC Silver lightweight title. Body shots finished Rufino.

Mexican prospect Abdiel “Mortero” Ramirez won the award for “revelation of the tournament” for getting to the final against the experienced Mauricio Pintor.

“It has been a great tournament after several months and I think we visited many states in order to present the best prospects of these five divisions. We expect another year with these companies to this tournament again. For us, the winners were boxing and the boxers who participated in the tournament,” stated Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo.

The Quien Pinta para la Corona? tournament took place in eight Mexican States and was sponsored by the companies Grupo Modelo, Comex, WBC and Promociones del Pueblo.
