WBC super welterweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over former world champion Kermit Cintron (33-5-1, 28 KOs) on Saturday night at the Plaza Mexico in Mexico City. Good performance by Alvarez, who dropped Cintron with a right hand in round four and Cintron barely made it back to his corner after the bell. The bout was stopped by referee Hector Afu after more power shots in round five. Time was 2:53. Alvarez dominated the whole fight and the end of round number four, all three judges had the fight 40-35 on the cards.
In thrilling 154lb clash, unbeaten Gilberto Ramirez (20-0, 18 KOs) rose from the canvas to score a fifth round TKO over Samuel Miller (24-5, 21 KOs), in what was his third title defense of WBC youth world junior middleweight belt.
Former WBA super welterweight champion Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 9 KOs) scored a brutal first round TKO over Edson Espinoza, who was dropped with a right to the chin and was unable to stand up. It was Ishida’s first fight since his shock first round KO of James Kirkland.
Unbeaten super flyweight (18-0-1, 10 KOs) Leo Santa Cruz won by TKO 3 over Jorge Romero.
