WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko confirmed that he will not step into the ring this year and that his bout with WBO mandatroy Eddie Chambers is moved to March, 2010.
Some rumors say that the fight was moved not only because of Wladimir’s shoulder injury but because HBO has already exhausted their budget for this year and can’t buy broadcasting rights for this bout. Commenting on these speculations the Ukrainian boxer explained:
“HBO really has problems with funds. However our fights still take place. Besides, in the United States Vitali’s and my bouts are televised on a free channel ESPN. In this case money is not priority for me, because we have other broadcasting partners. We’re selling this fight in more than 100 countries. So I think of it as a present for our fans. For the nine previous years our supporters in America could have watched our bouts only on the pay TV channel HBO. Now our fight are available almost for all boxing fans," Klitschko said.
