Nuzhnenko picks Mosley!

21 Jan 2009 11:01       hits 7754 Print version

In an exclusive interview with Fightnews.com, the WBA’s “other” welterweight champion Yuriy Nuzhnenko (28-0, 13 KOs) has given his prediction for the clash between Antonio Margarito (37-5, 27 KOs) and Sugar Shane Mosley (45-5, 38 KOs) on Saturday night in Los Angeles. “I think it’s about 70% against 30% that Sugar Shane Mosley will win,” estimates Nuzhnenko. “He has much more experience and is faster than Margarito. But the Mexican has been a very persistent boxer his last few fights, therefore he has some chance, but I think that Sugar Shane will win.”

Many say Antonio Margarito punches harder. Do you agree with that?

I do not agree. Mosley doesn’t concede anything in punching power. Margarito’s style of fighting is offensive while Shane can attack in different ways.

Margarito has an advantage in age, being seven years younger than Mosley. Does that give him an edge?

We’ll see in the ring. I will tell you that from observing Mosley I do not see at a weaknesses. Margarito is the stronger boxer, but style and experience will be the primary success factor for Mosley.

A rematch is already planned between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto. How do you think that will turn out?

Chances are 50/50. Assuredly Cotto will approach the fight in his best shape and now he already knows how to box against Margarito. In the first fight he was not ready to box as he was in his best fights. He underestimated Tony and lost. Another time and all will be in another way.

Yuriy, you’re the WBA world champion and Margarito is the WBA super champion. Are you insulted that he chose to fight Sugar Shane Mosley instead of you?

I am ready to fight against Antonio Margarito, Sugar Shane Mosley, Miguel Angel Cotto….I’m not afraid of anybody. Antonio Margarito has refused to fight me. He has chosen money. I can’t force him to fight against me. I just hope that the WBA and my promoters will get me a big fight.
