WBA reinstates John Ruiz!

"To all of the ***holes who want me out of the game...I'm back!" That's what heavyweight John Ruiz said after Team Ruiz was notified yesterday by the WBA that it has reinstated John "The Quietman" Ruiz as WBA heavyweight champion, effectively immediately. A WBA letter adressed to James Toney read: "Based on the actions of the New York State Athletic Commission and the test results on which the Commission relied, the WBA must vacate your championship ranking and reinstate John Ruiz as the champion..." read more ...

TONEY SUSPENDED; FINED!

According to the Fight Fax web site’s suspension list, James “Lights Out” Toney has been suspended for 90 days and fined $10,000 for testing positive for a banned substance. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, his April 30 WBA title-winning victory over John Ruiz has been changed to a No Decision. While the implications of this decision are not known, the most likely scenario will see the title returned to Ruiz outright. Toney will apparently be re-tested after his 90-day suspension is served. read more ...

Newly crowned WBA heavyweight champion James Toney has reportedly tested positive for an anabolic steroid in a post-fight drug test. Peter Camp Targets Toney

Dino Duva, promoter of red-hot heavyweight Samuel The Nigerian Nightmare Peter, says he is outraged by the post-fight conduct and comments of new WBA Heavyweight boss James Toney and claims he has just the thing to finally shut his mouth. Although he beat him fair and square, James Toney is a classless punk for the way he disrespected my friend and class act Johnny Ruiz after the fight, said Duva. If he has any balls, he will fight the top contender, Samuel Peter next, but I doubt he has the balls. If he did get in the ring with Samuel, it would give me great pleasure to watch Sam beat the hell out of him..." read more ...
Ruiz-Toney post-fight presser! 2 May 2005 18:46

Ruiz-Toney post-fight presser!

Stone grabbed the mic and expressed his displeasure with the media, stating, "I have to say, you can only beat a person down so many times, meaning you guys in the press. After we lost to Roy Jones he wanted to pack it in, I told him no, we're not leaving until we win this f**kin' title back. I know when Johnny says something, he means it," Stone continued, "This kid has never said anything bad about anyone, but you wrote all kinds of bad things about him. Look in the press, it's all you guys ever wrote. Here's a kid who beat (Andrew) Golota, he's the kid that knocked-out (Fres) Oquendo, He's the kid who beat Rahman, well, I have to say to you, John's done, farewell." read more ...

Ruiz retires! Toney challenges!

Toney gave Ruiz credit for giving him the opportunity but he did not give the former two-time champ any credit for his performance: “I didn’t expect much from John because he is an average fighter. John Ruiz is stupid. He can’t change his style. He only knows how to fight one way.” Toney concluded in issuing a challenge to “anyone, anywhere, at anytime” although he specifically targeted Klitschko... read more ...

Toney: I'm a Puncher!!!

Toney said of Ruiz, "He's never seen anyone like me, never in his life, and he's never faced anyone like me. I'm a puncher man, I've got 42 knockouts... I can punch with anyone." "I'm knocking his ass out," Toney predicted, adding, "This is for the fans because he disrespects a lot of folks out there. Those Latino fighters fight, they don't hug, they don't start kissing anybody, that's what he's doing..." read more ...
Roach: 6 Apr 2005 13:28

Roach: "After Ruiz Toney beats Tyson and Klitschko"

And Roach, 45, believes the Garden party will be just the start of a Toney reign of terror. "I honestly don't think there's anyone in the division who can beat James, including Vitali Klitschko. Actually, we are hoping that Vitali fight can happen next. I've worked with Vitali in the past and I know he's big and powerful but James has too much skill for him, I believe. These big guys pull away (straight) and James catches them to the head and bangs them when the go on the outside to the body..." read more ...

Toney-Stoney: Round 1!
