Wladimir Klitschko: “I’m entering into this fight relaxed, full of strength and new techniques. I’m going into this fight to win!”

Wladimir’s evening training lasted about ninety minutes. For the first time we were not allowed to take pictures or interfere with questions. All this speaks of seriousness that Wladimir is approaching this fight with. This training consisted of warm-up, ring training with Emmanuel Steward, combination practice, and work with punching bag and speed bag. After patiently waiting for Wladimir to finish training, we asked Wladimir few questions. - Wladimir, during your training we have seen new things added to your style. How was your preparation and is it possible to say that we’re going to see “updated” Wladimir Klitschko? - Changes in my technique you’ll see during this fight. Emmanuel and I... read more ...

He was only officially named as Klitschko's opponent late last month after Sergi Lyakhovich had to pull out due to passport problems. But Wilson told Fightnews.com that Castillo has had ample time to prepare. "You may not believe it, but we've been training for this fight ever since December," Wilson revealed. "The word on the street was he was supposed to fight Klitschko, so we've been training since December..." read more ...

Rahman-Klitschko not done!

Terms for a title challenge by former champ and mandatory challenger Hasim Rahman against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko are still being hammered out between Rahman and promoter Don King. Rahman originally stated he wouldn't fight Klitschko for the money offered, but then changed his mind and agreed to terms when Klitschko lined up another opponent. However, Klitschko suffered an injury and the fight originally scheduled for May 30 has been moved back to June 18 and now July 23... read more ...
Sergei Lyakhovich has refused to fight Wladimir… 23 Mar 2005 15:27

Sergei Lyakhovich has refused to fight Wladimir…

At today’s press conference, which took place in German castle «Goldshmitig» Wladimir Klitschko proudly turned up before journalists by himself. Segei Lyakhovich, who promised to be present virtually, was not there. It meant only one thing, that rumors about Lyakhovich refusal to face Wladimir are true. The reason behind Sergei’s pull out is possible to explain that he’s afraid to lose everything that he has gained in the boxing word, overlooking the fact that this fight would have been his biggest pay day and should he won, would move him to top of the heavyweight league. But the main reason is that Sergei moved to the USA in the middle of 1999 and till now has no naturalization papers (green card) giving the right to enter and... read more ...

Vitali Klitschko against Hasim Rahman Wladimir Klitschko against Sergei Lyakhovich

At last, after long negotiations, Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko’s opponents were finally determined. They are: a 29 year-old Belarusian who resides in the USA, Sergei “White Wolf” Lyakhovich (22-1, 14 KO), who on April 23rd in Dortmund’s “Westfalenhallen Complex” will carry out an IBF title eliminator against 28-year old Wladimir “Dr. Steelhammer” Klitschko (43-3, 39 KO), and also 32 year-old Hasim “The Rock” Rahman (40-5-1, 33 KO), who will challenge the WBC world heavyweight title holder Vitali “Dr. Ironfist” Klitschko (35-2, 34 KO) on April 30th in New York’s Madison Square Garden. Perhaps, for the first time in Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko’s career such uncertainty about their future opponent lasted this long. Initially, Wladimir was set to challenge the IBF world champion Chris “Rapid Fire” Byrd (38-2-1, 20 KO). However... read more ...
