Biography
Leavander Johnson former world lightweight champion died in hospital on September 22, 2005 five days after suffering brain damage in a title bout in Las Vegas. The 35-year-old American collapsed while heading to his dressing room after he was stopped in the 11th round of a failed IBF lightweight title defence against Mexico's Jesus Chavez on September 17, 2005

Leavander Johnson chased riches and glory in the ring for the better part of 16 years. He had to travel to Italy to become a champion, but finally had a belt around his waist and hope for his boxing future.
It all fell apart in less than an hour inside a hotel arena on the glittering Las Vegas Strip. First, Johnson lost his lightweight title. Then, he lost his life.

American Leavander Johnson won the battle of the veterans against Stefano Zoff Friday night (June 17) to claim the vacant IBF lightweight title in Palalido, Milano, Italy.
