Taylor strong in shakeout!

Jermain Taylor broke a sweat at a public workout held outside Tuesday at the Pepsi Pavilion in historic Handy Park. Taylor's workout began roughly about the time that his opponent Winky Wright was scheduled to arrive in Memphis at Wilson Air Travel. Taylor arrived in Memphis last Saturday and has reportedly been training at the Memphis Police Boxing Gym at the Mid-south Fairgrounds on Hollywood. Taylor appeared on stage from a Pepsi read more ...

Taylor-Wright: NYC Presser!

Boxing is a sport where the best and frequently most logical things don't always occur like they should. There are bad decisions, worse rankings and frequent mismatches. The fights that are supposed to be made frequently aren't. And when they are, they occur often too late in the fighter's careers or they're tainted by a loss in a previous tune-up fight. So imagine boxing fans' (and members of the industry's) delight when all of the read more ...

Soliman odd man out!

The on-off-on-off-on roller coaster known as the Jermain Taylor-Winky Wright negotiations has left Sam Soliman as the odd man out. Soliman's promoter Dan Goossen had twice agreed with DiBella Entertainment for Soliman to challenge Taylor in April for his world title belts, only to have last minute maneuvers result in Soliman being passed over in favor of a deal with Wright. "What can I say?" stated Soliman from his training camp in read more ...

Taylor-Wright talks break down!

Talks between the camps of middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and top challenger Winky Wright have reached an impasse. "They asked for 50% of the money and 50% of the control. That is not happening," Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella told Fightnews.com. "I made them an incredibly fair deal which is better than they would get in a purse bid with the WBC. HBO offered $5 million total and wouldn't come up a dollar. I offered Winky $3 million read more ...

Taylor-Wright update!

Negotiations are continuing between the handlers of middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and top challenger Winky Wright for Taylor's mandatory WBC title defense. The Taylor camp wants the bout to take place in Little Rock, Arkansas, while the Wright camp wants it to be in Tampa, Florida and neither side appears to be willing to fight on the other's home turf. At this stage the bout seems to be likely headed to neutral ground in Las Vegas or read more ...

Middleweight picture clearing up!

After his second straight razor-thin conquest of Bernard Hopkins, WBC/WBA/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor is eying a tune-up fight in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. "It would be a crime to put Jermain in another tough fight without a breather after going 24 rounds with Bernard Hopkins," promoter Lou DiBella said. "We expect a fight with Winky by next summer, but Jermain deserves a rest. I'm going to line up something so his read more ...

Taylor, Hopkins speak!

Bernard Hopkins: "If I had one wish, it would be to fight Antonio Tarver just so I could win the light heavyweight title, something that Ray Robinson came one round shy of doing. If I could have a wish - and it's not to fight Tarver, so to say it's just that he is the champion- but it would be to fight for the light heavyweight title and win it; something no other middleweight champ has ever done" read more ...

Taylor edges Hopkins! Vazquez defeats Larios!

It was hardly scintillating, but Jermain Taylor (25-0, 17 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Bernard Hopkins (46-4-1, 32 KOs) to retain his WBC/WBA/WBO middleweight world championship Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. A lot of posing early on, but Taylor seemed slightly better. As the fight progressed, Taylor became more and more in control. Like their first fight, the tide began to turn around round read more ...
