Calzaghe-Lacy presser quotes!

"Inside the ring I do not think there has ever been a fighter I can remember since the early Mike Tyson that comes in and throws punches with the fury that Lacy comes into the ring with. He does not ask if someone is a southpaw or whatever. All he says is give me the date and the time I have to be in the locker room." read more ...

Calzaghe injures hand, Lacy fight not happening

Speaking to SecondsOut, the American promoter spat: "Joe Calzaghe is a disgrace. I don't believe this injury is legit. He never, ever wanted to fight Jeff Lacy. There are some fighters who are willing to fight anyone, anytime - and there are fighters who just don't fit in that warrior category. Joe Calzaghe is one of the later. I just think this is criminal." read more ...

Calzaghe stops Veit in six!

Long-time WBO 168lb champ Joe Calzaghe successfully retained his title stopping interim champ Mario Veit of Germany moments ago in Braunschweig, Germany. The southpaw Calzaghe (39-0; 31KOs) looked always in control and floored his foe with a vicious left cross at the end of round five. Then, at the beginning of round six the defending champ went all over Veit and the German fighter was down again after a flurry of punches. Veit was up at the count of eight - but not totally recovered and American referee Gino Rodriguez stopped the contest shortly after when Calzaghe landed with another series. read more ...

Unbeaten WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe (38-0) was clearly angry today about his forced cancellation of his bout with Brian Magee in Belfast on Friday. This was his 16th defense of his WBO title which would have made him the outright most successful UK boxing world champion. He angrily threatened Mario Veit, "I am clearly angry that after all my training I am forced to cancel the fight the day before my most important defense. There has been over 5,000 tickets sold for this fight and I am possibly in the best shape of my career... read more ...
