Hasim "The Rock" Rahman, 40-5-1 (33), is just weeks away from his significant showdown with heavyweight Monte "Two Gunzs" Barrett, 31-3, (17), but all of the talk surrounding Rahman has to do with his on again, off again, world title challenge against Vitali Klitschko. It has been reported that the winner of the Rahman/Barrett clash will challenge Klitschko for the title on September 24th, allowing just six weeks in between bouts to prepare. The WBC Board of Governors has rejected a request for an exception by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and voted to force Vitali to face the winner of the August 13 Hasim Rahman vs Monte Barrett clash unless a step-aside agreement can be reached. WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will undergo surgery to remove a bone spur from his back, forcing his already twice postponed defence against Hasim Rahman back to at least September. The fight, a mandatory which Klitschko decided to take early, was originally scheduled for New York on April 30 but was put back to June 18 when the champion injured his leg while out jogging in preparation for the fight. Beck recovered well after being floored in round two, and both fighters rocked each other in round three. The complexion of the fight changed when Barrett was cut over the left eye in round four.
